About Bathroom ModelingBy: Osmundo Bernabe
If you are considering bathroom modeling keep in mind that it can be as simple as a “makeup job” where you apply new paint and tack on some new fixture or it can be as complex and expensive as a total ripping down of all the walls and a replacement of all the plumbing. This is why it is so important to have a clear mind about how you want the final result to look.
To assess your bathroom modeling needs try to ask yourself the following questions – What kind of shape is the bathroom in now? Sometimes a grimy looking bathroom only needs new tiles and an industrial strength cleaning. However if you have cracks in the walls, leaks and missing tiles it might be time for an entire renovation which is of course much more expensive. How many people will be using the bathroom? If the bathroom will be in use by a number of people you might consider having a closed off toilet area and/or shower area with a door so that more than one person can use the bathroom at once. You might also consider installing more than one vanity and lots of built in shelves. What is your budget for your renovation? Your budget is going to either limit you or inspire you. Be realistic about how much you can really afford before you splurge on a full-scale renovation. A realistic budget is one that will not put you in debt. Once you have a budget in mind take a hike to the hardware store to start comparison shopping for materials and look for bargains. Does your bathroom modeling job require a contractor or can you do it on your own? If you are not a professional then hire one. You need to use this room every day so be realistic about your own skills as a plumber, painter, carpenter or electrician. Is it possible to make the bathroom larger? Some bathrooms are the size of closets. It helps to get the opinion of a professional before you consider knocking walls down to make space for a bigger bathroom. How much time do you have to complete the job? If you need the bathroom modeling to be done quickly (because you have to sell the house or because you have a busy schedule) then don’t go for an elaborate plan – keep it as simple and be conservative with your taste. How long will you be using the bathroom? If you are remodeling to help sell your house, or might be selling soon, it may be best to stick with simple, conservative changes. You can still add a whirlpool tub, fancy faucets and new tiling but stay away from labor intensive schemes such as replacing all of the pipes and wiring in the bathroom.
